Nominate someone for the Lord Mayor of Nottingham's Volunteer Awards!

The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Jackie Morris, is seeking nominations for Nottingham’s unsung heroes – people who volunteer and do things on a daily basis to make a positive difference to their local community. Nominees will be shortlisted and awarded at a special awards ceremony in April.

The awards ceremony, which will be run by volunteers, for volunteers, will mark the culmination of the Lord Mayor’s Year of Volunteering. She has spent her year in office supporting a number of good causes across the city, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Nottinghamshire Deaf Society.

Volunteers from across Nottingham will be acknowledged for the contribution they make to their local communities. The Lord Mayor is encouraging members of the public and voluntary sector organisations and community groups to send to their local councillors details of local people that they know have made a positive difference in their neighbourhood.

Awards will be given in the following three categories:

  • Young Volunteer - Young people across the city help to improve their local communities by volunteering. This award acknowledges the important efforts people under 25 make to improve their local communities by getting involved in making it a better place to live.
  • Good Neighbour – Volunteering can be informal, like helping out your neighbours. These small acts can make a huge impact in our communities, and improve community spirit. This award recognises the people whose efforts are largely informal and very local, but who have had a significant positive impact on the lives of others.
  • Long Serving Volunteer - This award recognises people who have been helping others over a long period of time; it celebrates their ongoing commitment to their community.

Anyone wishing to nominate somebody they know should fill in a form, which will be passed onto the relevant local councillor. The form can be filled in online here or downloaded at the bottom of this page and returned to LMvolunteersevent[at][dot]uk

Nominations can be made until Friday 19 February 2016.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Jackie Morris says: “One of my priorities during my term of office as Lord Mayor is to recognise the vitally important role that volunteers play in making Nottingham such a wonderful and welcoming place to live.”

“These awards are about celebrating the largely unsung contributions of people who do things for others on a daily basis without being asked or without asking for reward. These people are the life blood of the city of Nottingham and its communities.”
